Dragonfly Microschool

The Dragonfly is a symbol of the change that comes with mental and emotional maturity. As a community, we are maturing to realize that the more we can directly support each other, the healthier we all are. So we are bringing back the one-room schoolhouse to Fayette, Utah. By combining project-based learning, mentoring, farm education, and outdoor school education, students at our microschool will grow as individuals while being directly supported by members of our local community.

Our Educational Program

Engage with Nature and our Local Community

Immerse your child in our unique microschool program that blends adventure, academic learning, and community engagement. Each activity is crafted to foster a deep connection with nature and promotes academic growth while nurturing a sense of responsibility towards our local community.

Nature/Farm Explorations

Explore the Wilderness

Join us on family field trips throughout Sanpete County twice a month. We will organize community camping trips in the Spring and Fall. Learn all about local flora and fauna,  and explore local farm businesses as we connect with community members.

Rural Life

Enjoy the benefits of Rural Living

Experience hands-on interactions with our local farmers and learn about homesteading. Our program focuses on fostering respect for all living creatures and understanding the delicate balance of ecosystems and farm life.

Project Based Learning

Creative Learning Projects

Engage in group projects led by students working together to explore their interests. Create complete works through our workshops and various projects integrating core academic subjects.

Outdoor Classrooms

Learning in Nature's Embrace

Step into our homestead's outdoor classroom where traditional subjects blend seamlessly with the natural world. Students engage in experiential learning, science experiments, and hands-on projects that connect academic concepts with real-world experiences.

This scholarship will provide our community with the opportunity to pay our educators in our community and will provide for all of the school’s expenses. To receive the award, applicants must apply by April 30th. Visit this website to apply: https://ufascholarship.com/.

If you need help applying for the scholarship or have questions, email me at dragonflymicroschool@gmail.com.

The school is currently applying to become a vendor for UFA. Once we are approved, we will clarify the tuition price.

Get to Know Us

My name is Marissa Gates, and I am thrilled to give back to our community in Fayette by directing this Microschool. I have a master's in Education and experience working with Montessori, Charlotte Mason, and Waldorf Education as a homeschool parent. I was also the director of a nonprofit nature school and have a professional background in education. I worked as a public school teacher in Title 1 schools, specializing in Apple Tech and IB education. My previous school district also hired me as a school garden consultant and to provide training for public school educators. I am excited to work with the school's teachers to design educational plans for each student and provide the best school experience that we can imagine.
